My first experience with naturism

Discovering Freedom

At home, nudity was definitely not common. It wasn’t talked about, and it certainly wasn’t practiced. I think this was mainly due to an alleged abuse in our family. In short, being naked was quite a taboo—or at least, that’s how I experienced it. Still, I felt the urge to be naked from a very early age.

Around the age of twelve, I started sleeping naked. I discovered how wonderfully freeing it was to lie in bed without a pajama wrapping around my body and without tight underwear. Of course, upon waking, I would quickly put something on before heading to the bathroom to start the day. Being naked felt incredibly liberating, and from that moment on, I always slept naked—except when guests stayed over or during vacations where I shared a sleeping space with others.

Otherwise, my nudity was mostly limited to my own room, or sometimes the rest of the house if nobody was home. Around others, it was only the usual post-gym showers at school, which at the time were done without underwear. Initially, that wasn’t a problem, until one day in primary school I got an erection while showering, and my classmates teased me about it. Later, that fear eased somewhat, but it left me feeling uncomfortable being naked around others for a long time.

It wasn’t until much later, in my late twenties, that I truly experienced recreational nudity. I was on vacation with two friends, and at Centre Parcs, where we stayed, there was a sauna by the pool. One of my friends had no interest at all, but the other, like me, was very curious about what it would be like. After much hesitation, we finally mustered the courage and went to the counter to get access to the sauna.

“But guys, the sauna closes in an hour, and to really enjoy it, you need to take your time!” said the lady at the desk. With a mix of disappointment and relief, we returned to our other friend at the pool.

The next day, curiosity won over fear. After taking a few precautionary measures—which seemed wise to avoid an erection in the sauna—we went back. Slightly nervous, we entered the sauna complex and walked to the changing room. One, two, three… in God’s name. We both took off our swimsuits, and I was completely naked for the first time in a space filled with other naked people. Yes, it was exciting. Especially the first hour, and occasionally I realized the precautions hadn’t been entirely sufficient. Later, I relaxed more and was able to enjoy the liberating feeling that being naked gives you. The foundation was laid.
